I think free agents should still be on the 72 hour pick up rule all year. Managers need to be held responsible. You bid, you win, you pick up. It’s hard enough for both Commish to make sure all teams add their free agents on time. Anything to make the rules more loose won’t help us in running the leagues. It appears the $1 penalty Is ok.
We do have managers in both our leagues and about five managers in all three leagues. It is possible for even the best intentioned of us to forget about a bid in one of these leagues. I’m still in favor of a max penalty for a big contract.
We can come up with a poll next year perhaps on some aspect of this thread.

It’s definitely worth looking at.

I think something should be done with the IL during spring training. Edwin Diaz is certainly done for the year and is taking up a roster spot as of now. I bid on a free agent knowing that, then I had to cut someone. It should be like the suspension rule where you would drop him to the waiver list, but no one could pick him up. You would pick him up again the next year. He could not be picked up the year you put him on waiver list.

I think this is a fair point, Rick, and something to discuss certainly.
If it's common knowledge then maybe we could run something like suspensions, but on a short term basis, and when IL is confirmed the player is added straight back to roster on IL?

that was the point I was trying to make with my comment. I have 2 players who are for sure out till August, most likely the whole year. Real life teams aren't waiting till the season starts to fill those roster holes, but I can't pick anyone up till yahoo makes them IL eligible. Stupid.

I certainly have no issue running something like this going forward if Rook is OK with it, but the question will be if it's too late to introduce this year, and that we have to wait until next off season to introduce it, so to be fair to managers who have made drops already following the existing rule?

Yes, it is Too Late to introduce this for this year. It would be unfair to those those who had to drop players previously to make their team work.
I think the fairest way to do it in the future, is the same way we have it now. Wait until the player goes IL/NA and then Free Agency a player. If you want the player bad enough, you have to drop someone while your injured player takes up a roster spot.

I have no issue either way, will go with whatever Rook wants to do.

Yes totally agree this is a next year potential change, nothing should be done this year. But disagree with Kyle on having to wait on FA. No team in any real life league is just going to wait in FA knowing a player is out for the year, they have the option to put players on IL to create roster room, we don't being handcuffed by yahoo designations.

Is that just for 10day IL? When is that date? Is it today, saw guys go on 10day today. Regardless teams are still carrying above roster limits in spring training and are signing guys knowing they are putting players on IL the week before opening day.

Even if that’s the case it doesn’t make sense for Shane Baz. Him and buehler both underwent TJ last year and buehler went on 60day IL in February and Baz still not put on the IL yet. Make it make sense haha

While I think something could be done, we do have to be careful not to make this overly complicated, especially for the admins. NA players we definitely wait until they get tagged on Yahoo, players can be up and down multiple times during spring training while rosters are finalised.
IL players I do think we could look at allowing some movement, and to be clear these are just my thoughts we are nowhere near a final decision, but for me only for injuries that put players out for the year or close to it, for example TJ, ACL, TOS etc. and only during the off season when these injuries/time scales can be proven, and teams are at a disadvantage during our free agency waiting on MLB teams and Yahoo to make the official moves.

While I disagree with a rule change. Here's the two topics discussed in this thread (for Rodger and Rook to discuss):
Topic#1 - Injured players for the year: -Keep the rule the same -Since March 5th is Free Agency, Perhaps march 18th (a monday, after a weekend, but long before opening day), you can propose to Rook/Rodger that your player should be IL'd since they'll be out for the season/majority of it. This would go on a case-by-case basis and one/both of them would have to approve. Then the player could be dropped until opening day or when they're announced as IL. -There is also an argument that a player is going to be demoted. I think this would be harder to police, but putting it in here as it was proposed. Especially since you don't know if the player will make the team (it may be a long shot, but it's possible)
.... Topic#2 - Free Agency pickup date, in the offseason -Keep the rule the same -Allow a grace period of 'all offseason free agency pickups need to happen by March 18th (picking a random date). The downside with this, is teams may not know they've actually picked up a 27th player. -Lesser/max penalty for a player not picked up. An example of this may be Max $10 penalty regardless how much above that penalty should be penalized. Example: $20/4 contract now it would be a $10 penalty. Another idea is to cap it at $25 as that's about 1/5th of the lowest salary cap. -There was also a comment about 'giving a warning' instaed of a penalty, but then you'll need to remember who you've given a warning to. And this could be abused "brewers, you need to pick up John Doe" - while Brewers is watiting for a player to go NA/IL.
