The following was just posted on the message board by the Dodgers:
“I don't understand the callup of Duran for the Twins that don't have an owner?? They are near last and Duran does nothing for them over the last month but now losing a year of $2 control by calling him up.”
I need to respond to this post. As you know Minnesota Twins is an open team and probably won’t be filled this year. The previous owner quit after 4-5 months. He did nothing to hurt the team while manager. He quit due to not having enough time because of a promotion. The manager before him destroyed the team. In consolation with our Admin I removed him from the league. He left the Twins with no prospects, no draft picks and only one or two good players. There was no future. We determined (Admin) to give the Twins a complementary 1st round 2023 pick, never done before in any of our leagues. That manager left the Twins that bad.
I the Commish have since day 1 set lineups for open teams. I have never bid on a free agents or took any buyouts for an open team UNTIL TODAY. My team the Orioles is done with free agents, no cap left, no more buyouts to take. I could still trade but never with an open team so I don’t feel this is a conflict of interest. My taking over the teams buyouts and free agent bids for the final month is my attempt to put this awful team into a better situation for the new manager whoever that may be. I have but 5 days to leave the Twins in the best possible shape with the lowest returning cap or payroll I can with half priced buyouts.
I just posted Twins buyouts for 12 players (many on IL and NA). Some players were on one year contracts and won’t be resigned by any manager. I took that money to bid on 5 free agents and promote one Prospect. My goal is to field a competitive team for the rest of the year, not tank, and try to leave the team in good shape payroll wise, in other words, less crappy so I have something to offer a new manager.
I was about to do the same thing for the open team Cubs but a brave soul took over that awful team and doing what I would have done. Now if you wish read my rant of sorts about the Cubs/Twins from the message board not long ago….scroll up…..and tell me what you think. It explains my thinking, my style, and my motives. Honestly it’s damned if I do nothing and damned if I did what I did.
As always I try to explain in detail what’s going on with this league. I put lots of time and thought into, things.
