Saw Fairbanks picked up on Yahoo by Indians. He is at 47.2 IP. Below our threshold of 50 so he is considered a PROSPECT and cannot be picked up. Even though he has been pitching in bigs for 4 seasons, he is still considered a PROSPECT. I believe we need to re-think our prospect rules to take into account present day use of pitchers. I believe RP prospects should be considered Non-Prospects after 20 appearances or games. Something to consider for pitchers that only appear as a reliever.

I knew there was more to the rookie rule in real MLB than in our rules. The original league this is league is modeled after has the same rules as ours, along with our sister league. It’s hard enough to get 20 managers in a start up league that knows baseball let alone knows obscure rookie rules. Evidenced by one manager drafting a prospect that has been out of baseball for 3 years, lol. Oh my!
Roger who now runs our sister league and I can first chat to see if we want to entertain changing the rookie/prospect rule for next year. Roger and I agreed we would keep both leagues rules identical since we have multiple managers in both leagues.
PS....I was too busy with the draft and didn’t notice this thread until now. Better late than never as they say.

honestly don't think there's an issue with how we treat RP prospects. The initial kickoff draft is really the only place we have the issue with them being prospects. Once normal free agency begins you can bid on a RP that is still considered a prospect if they have pitched in the majors or will be on the opening day roster. So like I said I don't think the rule should change since this initial draft is really the only occasion where we run into issues. I've been/currently in 4 other dynasty leagues and all abide by the 50innings for pitchers and 130ab rules for prospects.

Thanks for stating my position for me. This year is the issue. Next year is fine. It will make for some fun overpriced bidding on RP free agents.

Nobody ever said to change it this year. Isn't this the place to discuss rule changes for next year.

Buck, Fair point. If you could change the rule on RP what would you propose. Also, how would you handle SP that have RP eligibility?
Keep in mind when a player is on an MLB team (regardless of IP or AB) they are eligible to be bid on. Only time you couldn't (starting year 2) bid on a player is if they have prospect status and it's pre-opening day.

What about expanding the requirements to include games played. For example Joely Rodriguez has had time since 2016, pitched in 50 games but is 2/3 of an inning still classified as prospect here.

Keep talking about it. I understand everyone’s point. If possible, I think keeping the rules as simple as possible is the best solution. I’m not sure how this becomes an issue next year or really needs a rule change. I am not against a rule change. We no longer draft MLB players, only prospects. How would a new rule be written?
